Using LSB in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy DBT

about DBT

Josh LaForte used Life Story Board  in his  DBT in a three step process that involves three persons: the Client;  the Listener a safe listener, someone known and safe to the client (parent or other); and Therapist.

The Client sits before the Yellow ‘Inside’ zone. Listener is seated before the Red ‘Outside’ zone.

Client shares a significant life story, something that affected themselves, depicted within the yellow Inside space, Inside.

As outsider witness, Listener re-tells the story as heard, depicted in the red  Outside space.

The middle Green Zone is for processing the two versions, how they resonate in the moment with emotions and feelings arising, and as client notices and applies six mindfulness skills.

“The client reflects on what they hear- how their own story affected someone else.  It gets them thinking differently, even about their own story, which enriches their narrative.  This three step process has gone over very well.”

Josh says  “I think creative people in general gravitate towards this modality (LSB). It is fairly abstract at first, its practical advantages come through over time.  many modalities can be integrated into the life story board process, once you grasp the theory and its practical implications. It’s a really good tool, once things begin to click together.”
