Using LSB in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy DBT

What is DBT?

Josh LaForte has used Life Story Board  in his  DBT in a three step process that involves three persons: the Client;  the Listener, someone known and safe to the client (parent or other); and the Therapist.   The Client sits before the Yellow ‘Inside’ zone. Listener is seated before the Red ‘Outside’ zone.

Client shares a significant life story, something that affected themselves, which, in co-construction with Therapist is storyboarded in the Yellow Zone.  Then, as an outsider witness, Listener re-tells Client’s story as they heard and understand it. This gets storyboarded in the Outside space, outside the Red Zone.

The middle Green Zone is for processing the two versions, how they resonate for the Client, in the moment with emotions and feelings arising, and as client notices and applies six mindfulness skills.  “The client reflects on what they hear- how their own story affected someone else.  It gets them thinking differently, even about their own story, which enriches their narrative.  This three step process has gone over very well.”
